Custom Car, Kit Car Information

If you built a custom car and don't have insurance, VIN number, or title for your vehicle. First off you will need all of your receipts to prove the vehicle wasn't stolen.

Step 1: Get your vehicle weighed at a weigh station.
Step 2: Call Geico Insurance Agency and get your vehicle insured.
Step 3: Go to the Austin Police Department and set up an apointment to have your car looked at
by a detective to make sure the car or any part of the car isn't stolen. (Receipts are
        needed at this point.)
Step 4: Apply for a VIN at TexDOT. (Receipts are needed here also.)
Step 5: Take your vehicle to an inspection station where you will need to show proof of
insurance, and VIN to get your vehicle inspected. At this point if your vehicle
passes the inspection we will issue a VI-30A form to get your vehicle registered.
Step 6: Take your Vi-30A form along with proof of insurance, and notorized form to any title
office to get the title on your vehicle.
Kit car information:

If you have a kit car and the vehicle has a VIN then all you will need is insurance and we can then inspect it and give a VI-30A form. However in rare cases if the kit car doesn't have a VIN then you will need to follow the above steps to get the vehicle titled.
