This section outlines the notices that every Vehicle Inspection station has
on Display at all times. These notices are from the Texas Department of Transportation.

 

AN INSPECTION CERTIFICATE MAY NOT BE ISSUED FOR A VEHICLE FOR WHICH THE OWNER OR OPERATOR FAILS TO FURNISH THE REQUIRED EVIDENCE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Insurance Notice:

EFFICTIVE August 1, 1996
PRIOR TO INSPECTION:

The owner or operator of a vehicle shall present evidence of financial responsibility to the inspection station in one of the following ways:

1. A liability insurance policy, or a copy of the policy, in at least the minimum amounts required
   by law. (Texas Minimum requirements are $20,000/$40,000/$15,00)

2. A standard proof of liability insurance from promulgated by the Texas Department of Insurance
   and issued by a liability insurer that includes:
      (A) the name of the insurer;
      (B) the insurance policy number;
      (C) the policy period (dates of coverage and issued for 30 days or more);
      (D) the name and address of each insured person;
      (E) the policy limit or a statement the the coverage of the policy complies with at least the minimum
          amounts of the liability insurance required by this act; and
      (F) the make, model, and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of each covered vehicle.
3. An insurance binder that confirms that the owner and/or operator is in compliance.
4. A copy of a certificate issued by the Department of Public Safety that shows that the vehicle is
   covered by self-insurance.
5. A certificate (or copy) issued by the State Treasurer that shows that the owner of the vehicle has
   on deposit with the Treasurer money or securities in at least the amount required by law.
6. A certyificate (or a copy of a certificate) issued by the Department of Public Safety that shows that
   the vehicle is a vehicle for which a bond is on file with the Department.
7. A copy of a certificate issued by the County Judge where the vehicle is registered that shows that
   the owner has on deposit, cash or a cashier's check in at least the amount required by law.
8. Railroad Commission Cab Cards:
   (A) Intrastate Railroad Commission Cab Card with a copy of the authority attached;
   (B) Interstate ICC Regulated Carriers Uniform D Cab Card with Railroad Commission stamp attached;
   (C) Interstate Exempt Carriers Uniform D1 Cab Card with Railroad Commission stamp attached.  
NOTE: Evidence of Finacial Responsibility must be furnished for the Towing Vehicle of any trailer, semi-trailer, or pole trailer presented for inspection.

VEHICLES EXEMPT FROM THIS REQUIREMENT

1. GOVERNMENT VEHICLES: U.S., State - Texas, County, City
2. Vehicles registered to Volunteer Fire Departments
3. Vehicles registered with "Antique" License Plates

Notice:

Vehicle Inspection Rules state the statutory fee for Inspection may be
charged whether the vehicle presented for inspection passes or fails.

Emissions Test Official Notice:

EFFICTIVE September 1, 2005
Your passenger vehicle or truck must be emissions tested if it is:
1. Gasoline powered (capable of being powered by gasoline);
2. Two years old through and including twenty-four years old (2-24);
   (A) Two years old means:
       (1) upon the expiration of the initial two-year inspection certificate; or
       (2) vehicle is presented for inspection or required to be inspected and the
           vehicle's date of manufacture is greater than 2 years.
   (B) Twenty-four years old means: vehicle model year is 24 years or less than
       the current calendar year (current calendar year minus 24 years)
3. Registered, primarily operated, or presented for inspection in:
   (A) Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris,
       Johnson, Kaufman, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, and
       Williamson counties.

NOTE: Primarily operated means to drive, park or store a vehicle
for 60 days or more (consecutive or not) per calander year in the county.

WARNINGS:

1. It is a vialotion of Texas law to avoid emissions testing (Transportation Code 548.603).
2. It is a vialotion of Texas law for this station to issue an inspection certificate
   without performing an emissions test on a required vehicle (Transportation
   code 548.603). Any station that violates this law will be subject to certification
   suspension or revocation (Transportation Code 548.405).
